Kelly Wood

Date of Birth: 5th March, 1990 Home Town: Goodwood, ON

2009-

With only 2 seasons on the circuit, Kelly and her team out-performed many of the more experienced drivers at Kawartha Speedway each and every week.

Racing at Kawartha in Late Model for the 2009 season, Kelly gained some valuable seat time and behind the wheel experience competing in 10 races including one 100 lapper feature where she managed a top ten finish. Kelly finished the season in 11th place out of 38.

At the end of the summer Kelly applied to Ron Sutton Winners Circle Driver Development Program. She was selected out of 724 drivers to compete in a Driver Shootour with 35 other drivers in California. Kelly tested in a NASCAR Grand American Modified and was the most impressive driver of the weekend. Consequently she was offered the opportunity to join the R.S.W.C. Driver Development Team for the 2010 season. After much consideration Kelly has decided to pursue other options for 2010.

2008-

In 2008, Kelly made the move into Stock car racing with two very good tests in a Limited Late Model at Mosport Speedway in May. She has also joined the pit crew of the No. 9 Dodge team that runs in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series to help her learn about what goes into running a successful team in this highly competitive series. Kelly won her first stock car race in only her third outing at Barrie Speedway competing in the Charger/Mini-Stock class following this very short introduction into stock car racing, she has now moved up into a Limited Late Model .

2007-

2007 saw Kelly competing at Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship, Toronto Kart Club and the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship. Participating in over 50 races, in Senior Honda, Senior Rotax and a limited schedule in the all new DD2 class, she went on to win a championship in both Senior Light and Senior Rotax at Toronto Kart Club. The double championship at Toronto Kart Club was a fantasic achievement as it is well known that Goodwood is one of the hardest and most technical tracks in karting. Entering the SRFKC in only her second season of racing was certainly a tough learning curve. Ending the season with a 6th place finish in Senior Honda was a great result considering that this is one of the most fiercely competitive classes within the championship

Kelly was awarded a F1200 scholarship by TKC and competed in a test day at Mosport International Raceway where she drove in difficult conditions and was fast enough to be awarded her CASC Rookie license.

2006-

Kelly, emigrated to Canada from England, in April of 2002. She started racing at the age of 16 and in her first season competed in 32 races, winning the Senior Rookie of the Year at Simcoe Kart Club with a 3rd place finish in the championship and the Most Improved Senior Driver at Toronto Kart Club (Goodwood) finishing 7th place in the championship.

Testimonial

"I've had the pleasure to work with and follow Kelly's career over the last few years. She has what I would call something that can't be taught, she has the desire to win! Kelly's results on-track speak for themselves. She is dedicated to her career and her work ethic and willingness to learn is second to none. She is definitely on the right track and with a little bit of luck the sky is the limit!"
