A second-place finish in Senior Light was more than enough to wrap up the points, and good enough to earn a coveted testing spot in a F1200 race car. Wood was one of three senior karters chosen for the honour, and will take to Mosport International Raceway this Friday as a representative of TKC.
In karting action, Race #13 was over the Goodwood short track and the club opted for the very popular heat race qualifying. Starting third for the first heat, Kelly had an excellent start and filed into second before taking the lead at corner four. Afterwards she drove comfortably clear of the field to win the first heat. The second start was going to be much tougher as she went from the second row to the second last row, but after a good start, Kelly picked up two positions over the first lap and by the checker of an eight lap heat race she moved all the way to fifth, which put her on the front row for the main event.
Starting from the outside, Kelly made a brilliant start and took the lead into corner one. She gradually pulled clear, but the field caught back on as the she caught lap traffic toward the end of the feature. Eyeing the big picture of a class championship over fighting for the win, Kelly settled in second and clinched the Senior Light Championship as she took the checkered flag. It is yet another great accomplishment in such a young career, and the fact that it is a team effort was not lost on the up and coming racer. "'Many people helped me with my racing this season, but I would especially like to thank Marco and Daniel Di Leo, Al DiFrangia from Camden Motors and all at Goodwood Kartsport Team," she said afterward. Kelly will follow the F1200 test with the final points race of the TKC season on Saturday at Goodwood.
