The Toronto Kart Club headed South of the border last weekend, making its annual trek to Batavia International Motorsports Park for Race 11. Once again Huntsville's Kelly Wood enjoyed a fabulous club weekend, returning undefeated from her time in New York State.
Arriving at Batavia early Friday morning and with little sleep, Kelly took to the Batavia track for the first time and was quickly into her stride, posting some very good times in both Honda and Rotax as drivers enjoyed a day of practice. Two sessions followed on Saturday morning, and following a lunch break Kelly confirmed her pace by scoring pole in both Senior Light and Rotax.
After two prefinal wins, the Senior Honda final was up first and once again Kelly was challenged for the lead in the first two laps before slipping free to a four second win. The Rotax final resembled an ICA race with karts struggling to complete race distance, but there were no such worries for Kelly as her Goodwood/Intrepid package crusied to her second win of the day.
Kelly would like to thank her fellow competitors and TKC for putting on a great race. She is back in action this coming weekend as the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship resumes at Mosport.
