Once again in action with the Toronto Kart Club last weekend Huntsville's Kelly Wood produced another double-podium performance as she crossed first and second in a pair of starts at the 2007 Hershey Centre Grand Prix.
After four practice sessions Saturday, Kelly was running well in both Rotax and Senior Honda and produced strong qualifying runs in both. Rotax Senior was up first and she qualified on the second row. On track for the prefinal, Kelly ended the first lap in fourth but with a patient run, made her was to second by the checkered flag. Starting the final from off-pole, Kelly held the outside line running into turn two and took the lead with a brilliant pass, then leading the way to a Goodwood/Intrepid 1-2 with teammate Ryan Dennahower.
Senior Light was up next and after another strong qualifying and prefinal effort, Kelly was off-pole for the second time. In this one she settled into second and minding her championship hopes with a visiting member at the point, she remained in second for the entire race distance and took TKC first place points. The decision shows the growing race craft of the teenage racer and the fine form she is rounding into as the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championships resumes this weekend and with the ASN Canadian Nationals Championships just two weeks away.
Once again Kelly would like to thank Marco and the Goodwood Kartsports Team, and Al for his support over the weekend in another great event put on by the Toronto Kart Club.
