One of the biggest surprises at the 2007 Barrie Grand Prix was Kelly Wood claiming pole in the biggest field on the Lakeshore. Forty karts were in Rotax Max Senior, including many veteran karters, but it was Wood who topped the charts in just her second season of karting - and in her very first race with Goodwood/Intrepid.
After a solid day of practice Friday, the Huntsville teenager was feeling comfortable in her new chassis and was hoping to guarantee herself a spot in the main event by qualifying in the top twenty. Saturday morning showed the chassis was dialled in and Wood responded with a 43.244 second lap - good for her first Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Pfaff Pole Position.
Though contact ended her race day early, Wood was very happy with the performance and would like to thank all at Goodwood Kartways and everyone in the Intrepid pit area for all their help over the weekend. Kelly will be back in action this coming weekend at the Toronto Kart Club Canada Cup.
